This department is headed by Dr. K.K. Sinha under whose visionary guidance and great clinical acumen the department is catering to more than 24 districts surrounding Bhagalpur particularly the tribal area,like Dumka,Sahebganj ,Godda and Deoghar where from patients of Thalassemia report in abundance to routine OPD and specialized Thalassemic clinic that runs every Monday .
Five more specialized clinic like Hemophilia, Cerebral Palsy, Diarrhea & Malnutrition are run regularly in OPD in evening hours in five week days.
This is the nodal center of F-IMNCI training program where Doctors from 6 districts regularly undertake training in order to orient them from reducing neonatal and infant mortality of Bihar and our department topped in entire Bihar as reported in the performance report of State Health Society Bihar. We started 24 bed NICU with the help of UNICEF which was inaugurated by present Chief Minister of Bihar,Sri Nitish Kumar. The turnover of patients here exceeds any SNCU of Bihar.
Some rarer diseases like Carbon baby syndrome, Milky blood syndrome,Farahs Syndroms ,Tuberous Sclerosis,Atrial myxoma and several cases of resistant type of epilepsy has been diagnosed and reported in journals.
MCI recognized diploma in pediatrics namely PGDMC which is running for last 9 years.
Our department has a richer faculty with one professors, two associated professors ,3 assistant professors ,4 senior residents and 4 junior residents along with specially trained four staff nurses at our NICU. We have a rich LAB support with EEG machine ,EMG machine and NCV machine,ABG machine along with multi general recorder ,Ventilator ,LED phototherapy machine Infusion pump and pulse oximeter to provide tertiary level neonatal care at our institute . Exchange transfusion is also done at this institute.
